As expected, thanks to last week's media invitations, ASUS have revealed the new PadFone Infinity smartphone/tablet combination at an event in Taipei. There are numerically few changes to the hardware compared to the previous Infinity setup but the changes that are there are fairly significant.

The Snapdragon 800 processor from Qualcomm has indeed made itself known on the new PadFone, running clocked at 2.2GHz compared to the 1.7GHz Snapdragon 600 which graced the last model. Storage defaults have been dropped from 32GB/64GB to 16GB/32GB options and ASUS have swapped out the old LPDDR2 system memory for 2GB of LPDDR3. The company has also added in a microSD slot, another new addition to the device.

Aside from the operating system upgrade, which will be Android 4.2.2 at launch, everything else is identical. The 5-inch Super IPS display remains at 1,920 x 1,080, the 13MP rear and 2MP front cameras have not gone anywhere and the battery is still a 2,400mAh affair.

The upgrades which have taken place are enough on their own however and the good news is that users who already have the previous tablet dock will be able to just purchase the smartphone portion of the combo to reap the benefits of the better hardware.
