Microsoft has been working on Office for Apple’s iPad for some time and it is rather close to launch, if a new report from ZDNet is to be believed. Redmond has already launched an iPhone-specific version of their iconic software but the report claims that Apple might wind up with a tablet version of Office before Microsoft launches a touchscreen version for their own operating system.
Microsoft is thought to have reconsidered delaying Office for iPad and the company is reportedly aiming at releasing the software before July this year, with a touchscreen-compatible version for Windows 8 following afterwards.
There are no signs about what form the document editing suite will take for Apple’s mobile devices but the speculation is that Microsoft will be releasing a fairly basic version of Office. This assessment is based around the Office for iPhone release and users will likely require an Office 365 subscription to make the most of the mobile offering.
